About  Norwell, MA

 

Norwell is a town in Plymouth County, 20 miles south of Boston. Located on the south shore of Massachusetts, Norwell is part of the state’s 9th congressional district. It has borders with other towns such as Hanover, Pembroke, and Marshfield. Norwell, a town now home to lush areas of natural reserves, is steeped in industrial history.

The south-eastern border runs along the picturesque North River. These riverbanks were once the host to many shipbuilding companies, an important part of Norwell’s history. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, some of the finest shipping vessels of all time were built in Norwell.  These include the Columbia, which was the first American ship to circumnavigate the globe. 

Today, Norwell is an affluent residential community, with modern facilities such as schools, shopping malls, libraries, and three industrial parks. The town has over 11,000 residents and its busy working district is frequented by out-of-town workers as well. With the addition of commuters, the daytime population increases to 13,965. 

Norwell also boasts a higher than state average income and competitive housing market. Furthermore, with transportation links such as Massachusettes Route 3, Norwell is well-connected. The nearest airport for national and international travel is Logan International, Boston. Norwell’s high level of public services, amenities, and convenient location make it a popular choice for professional families. It also has a very highly ranked school and education system. Community recreational areas include alley Swamp and Stetson Meadows Conservation Land, the Albert F. Norris Reservation, Black Pond Natural Preserve, the North River Salt Marsh, Cuffey Hill Reservation, Miller Woods and the Donovan Property. These areas offer many outdoor activities that are popular among locals, including hiking, biking, and wildlife spotting.
