About Pembroke, MA

Pembroke is a historic town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. It’s a south shore suburb located between Boston and Cape Cod. It’s a 26 miles commute from the city of Boston and its amenities, connected by Route 3. Pembroke is also linked by highway to many other major adjoining cities, and accessible by the MBTA commuter rail service.

Historically Pembroke has been an agricultural and industrial town. The town has large tracts of woodlands that have provided timber for homes and industry. Pembroke’s water supply is the town’s most notable resource. It’s bordered by the North River and Indian Head River and has many ponds and marshes.

Since World War II Pembroke has primarily been a residential community, occupied mainly by Boston city workers and students. It’s experienced exceptional growth in the last century. The town has increased by 1000% and now is a bustling suburban community with a population of 19,000 people.

One of Pembroke’s points of interest includes the Pembroke Country Club, an 18 hole golf course. The town also is home to historical and cultural sites such as the Pembroke Historical Society Museum, and the Pembroke Friends Meeting House, displaying artifacts of the town’s Quaker history.

The town of Pembroke is also famous for its Grand Old Fish Fry Festival, which takes place at the Thomas Reading Herring Run Park in May. This day of family celebrations including food, music, and duck races, pays tribute to the traditional herring harvest. Safe to say Pembroke is not without cultural heritage.

Pembroke is a popular place to live for professional families due to its quality schools, recreational activities, and dining options. The picturesque town is easily commutable from cities in the Boston metropolitan area and contains numerous natural and historical landmarks.
